Distraction |
|
Distraction In difficult cases, maxillofacial surgery can be used during orthodontic treatment, for functional or aesthetic correction. Some patients need both orthodontic treatment and surgical intervention. If surgical intervention during orthodontic treatment is indicated, intra-oral distraction can be used to correct the position and size of bone. Traditional jaw surgery (an osteotomy) and osseo distraction both have their indications. During intra-oral distraction the orthodontist plays an active role. The patient is able to observe and discuss the facial changes. Diagnosis and interdisciplinary treatment will improve treatment results. |
